25 Sep Older Adults Suffer in Rural Communities Impacted By Opioid Crisis

Grantmakers in Aging, GIA, published a report on the impacts of the opioid crisis on older adults in rural communities. The report found that though the older adults may not be suffering themselves from opioid addiction, they may suffer from a lack of resources due to the diverted attention towards the crisis. “For rural older residents, opioid addiction presents an especially difficult set of circumstances. Shortages of qualified health providers, a lack of treatment programs or an inability to access the few available clinics mean many go without appropriate care.”
